LAWRENCE Dallaglio believes the current league structure means Wasps fans are getting the thin end of the wedge.

Although they are paying full prices, the league set-up means they often don't get to see the star attractions in the black and gold.

Wasps have played six of their 13 Guinness Premiership matches this season without their internationals - it would have been exactly half their fixtures if the Sale game hadn't been frozen off.

Dallaglio said: "Fans are getting short-changed. They aren't seeing the best two teams out on the pitch.

"Premier Rugby League and the Rugby Football Union need to knock their heads together and understand that the product we're producing is far better when you've got your England internationals playing."

Yesterday tickets for £19 were still on sale for tonight's game at Newcastle, when ten of England's Six Nations squad will be on show.

But those stars will be gone again next weekend, when tickets for Wasps' home game with Harlequins range from £20.50 to £27.50.

On the field, Dallaglio has told his troops they can't use that as an excuse if they miss out on the play-offs.

Without their internationals, they needed last-minute heroics to beat Bristol last weekend after conceding four tries.

Dallaglio said: "You come up with defensive patterns and when you're shifting seven or eight players from the week before, it's a big ask.

"There is still no excuse for it and we've got to look at ourselves and put it right because if we want to win trophies we're going to have to sharpen our act up in that area.

"But some of our best defenders were away on international duty and as we get into the business end of the season we won't be changing our side.

"Our defence and intensity will go up and up."
