PAUL Lambert has seen it all in his career with Celtic and Dortmund. But the Champions League winner admits even he wasn't prepared for the expectation of Blues fans.
He was stunned to hear that a Wanderers fan refused to renew his season ticket because he felt Wycombe did not play well enough against Chelsea in their Carling Cup semi-final last year.
He said: "Our kitman Jim Gardner went in for an operation last year and the surgeon was a Wycombe fan. They chatted about football.
"The surgeon let Jim know he wouldn't be renewing his season ticket as he felt the team didn't play well enough against Chelsea.
"My goodness. It was only a few years ago this club was playing against the Metropolitan Police - and couldn't beat them!
"I will never forget that. It just made me laugh. I will always keep that story in my head and it is one memory I will take away from here.
"We were a League Two club, playing against Chelsea who were at that time the best team in England, if not Europe, with the best manager in Europe and we drew the first leg 1-1 and only lost the second 4-0 when many much bigger clubs than us were losing at Chelsea every other week."
Now that ultra critical supporter who snubbed the team could miss out on seeing them win promotion.
Lambert said: "I would love to go up to show people like that. I just don't know where they get their expectations from."
But Lambert heaped praise on the club's away fans.
He said: They were terrific at Rochdale, they've been excellent all season and we'll need them to be again at Lincoln."
