WASPS star Josh Lewsey says the referee was right to call off Sunday's game with Sale at Adams Park.
He said: "There and then, the referee actually made the right call because the pitch was really very solid. You could have foreseen quite a nasty injury on it."
Both teams trained on the pitch instead.
Lewsey said: "We did a lot of running around, we did a fairly hard fitness session. Both teams did.
"For the spectators it might have been quite frustrating and thought if it's good enough to train on why couldn't we play'.
"Obviously we weren't doing any contact work, and that's where the injuries would occur."
And Lewsey actually believes the late cancellation could help Wasps.
He said: "We were missing ten or 12 players and Sale were missing one or two, so if we have to play them later in the year, which was the initial plan, then hopefully that will work in our advantage."
