WASPS' Guinness Premiership match with Sale Sharks at Adams Park was postponed just minutes before kick-off today.
The match was due to kick off at 5.15pm, but at 5.10pm the stadium announcer told fans the game was off because a section of pitch in the shadow of the Frank Adams Stand was frozen.
Wanderers were able to go ahead with their match with Mansfield last night, and at 3pm today the pitch was still playable.
But conerns were raised when the players and officials came out for their pre-match warm-up and eventually referee James Buckland, with the support of both teams, declared the pitch unplayable.
There is undersoil heating at Adams Park but it takes 12 hours to heat the turf and, because of the warm weather, was not turned on.
Nearly 7,000 fans bought tickets for the match and Wasps, who admit the game's cancellation will cost them 'a serious amount' of money, are offering full refunds.
