WASPS forwards coach Craig Dowd has told Italy they'll learn all about Payne when the Six Nations resumes in Rome on tomorrow.

An injury to Andrew Sheridan has meant a recall for Wasps prop Tim Payne and Dowd says the 29-year-old is up to the challenge He said: "England have nothing to worry about with him.

"He doesn't do the glory work, you won't see him charging up the field with the ball, but he does the hard yards for you.

"He'll hold his side of the scrum up and will clean out rucks.

"I dropped him a text when I heard he was in the team and he sent me one back saying now I've got to do the job on Sunday'.

"He'll do his job, and do it well."

Payne's sixth cap will finally draw a line under his World Cup heartache.

After breaking into the England team during last season's Six Nations, an untimely knee injury meant he missed out on what would have been the biggest few months of his career - victory in the Heineken Cup with Wasps followed by a run to the World Cup Final with England.

Rather than sulking, the front rower committed himself fully to his rehabilitation, made what was described as a miraculous' recovery and was back in the side for the start of the season.

He said: "I had one of the worst knee injuries you could get. I knew as soon as I walked off the pitch in that Heineken Cup quarter-final that my chance of playing at the World Cup had gone.

"They Wasps thought I would be back in November, but through sheer hard work I came back at the beginning of this season.

"You've got to set goals. I told myself to work hard, play to the best of my ability and hopefully somebody will come to watch.

"I lost my England place through injury and now I've won it back because someone else is injured. That's the way sport goes.

"I have the shirt now. I've got this opportunity but I've got to grab it."

Dowd, who knows him better than most having played with him and then overseen his development from a journeyman professional to international player, said: "He is behind a world class prop in Andrew Sheridan and it's not easy for him to push his way in.

"Missing the World Cup was a real blow but he's shown his character and worked really hard to get back. I'm proud of him."

Payne joins England captain Phil Vickery in the pack, with fellow Wasps Paul Sackey, James Haskell and Simon Shaw all retaining their places.

Danny Cipriani is on the bench, despite calls for England to pick him ahead of Jonny Wilkinson.
