Wycombe captain Joe Jacobson has called Adebayo Akinfenwa a ‘friend for life’ ahead of the League One play-off final.

The Welshman has played with the so-called ‘Beast’ for six years, achieving two promotions in that time.

Akinfenwa signed for the club on a free transfer from AFC Wimbledon in 2016, and will retire from the game after the Wembley showdown against Sunderland on May 21.

Jacobson said: “First of all, he has been unbelieveable for us on the pitch.

“He is probably the club’s greatest-ever signing, he is the club’s all-time leading scorer in the Football League so that stats don’t lie in terms of what he has achieved here.

“He has had two promotions and he’s changed the dynamic off the pitch.

“He leads the guys in the dressing room and even though he may not have been in the team for as much as he has been this season, he’s a huge credit to himself to still be playing at 40.

“I have made a friend for life.

“We speak a lot, our families know each other really well and he has done a lot of stuff for us off the pitch that people wouldn’t have seen.

“He has looked after us like he does with his family and he will be a huge miss.”
