The Chairboys kick-off their Easter weekend by hosting promotion rivals Plymouth Argyle at Adams Park on Good Friday.

Wycombe go into the match off the back of an eight-game unbeaten run which started following a dismal run of form, which saw Wanderers pick up just three points from their previous 21 available.

And despite dropping out of the play-off places following last week’s draw at Gillingham, Wycombe know that they have it all to do to get back into the top six.

Speaking ahead of the match on April 15, Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “This is going right down to the wire.

“In the last 10 seasons, 74 points has never failed to make the playoffs.

“On our day, we can beat anybody in this league and I think we’ve got a chance of making it.”

Whatever happens before now and the end of the season, at least one team who currently sit in the play-off places will experience the disappointment and heartbreak of dropping out of the play-offs due to fixtures that are coming up.

Most notably, second-placed Milton Keynes have got to play fifth-placed Sheffield Wednesday, eighth-placed Oxford United, and fourth-placed Plymouth Argyle.

On the other hand, Wycombe will have to play Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United who sit in third, take on Sunderland and Oxford United, with Plymouth taking on Sunderland and Wigan Athletic.

It’s going to be one of the most exciting ends to a League One season, and if Wanderers were to get five more points, they will be on 78, the highest amount they would have accumulated in this tier since the 1994/95 season, when Wycombe finished sixth in the old Division 2 (League One).

However, Ainsworth knows the task against Plymouth will not be an easy one, as Argyle have only lost one of the last nine, picking up eight clean sheets.

The boss continued: “This is two totally different teams from back in the day.

“Both clubs have been on similar journeys and we’re both a different animal.

“To take anything from the previous games would be naive.”

A Good Friday victory could see the Chairboys rise to fifth, depending on the results of Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland.

Wednesday travel to MK Dons on Saturday night, whilst Sunderland host Shrewsbury.
