Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth has sung the praises of Charlton boss Nigel Adkins after the Chairboys defeated the Addicks 2-1 at Adams Park.
Several of the travelling fans were calling on the former Southampton and Reading manager to leave the club following a sixth loss in nine matches this season, with the full-time whistle being met with a chorus of boos from the away end.

The defeat leaves Charlton in the relegation places, but despite their tough start, Ainsworth believes the former PL side’s fortunes will improve as the season goes on.

He said: “Nigel Adkins is a super manager.
“He has managed at the top level and has been promoted to the top level, and to boot, he’s a great guy who has got great values and manages his team well.
“So don’t be surprised when Charlton start to climb the table because he’ll get that group together which is a young and new group, but we wanted them to not create an identity today and we didn’t let them have any possession in the first-half.
Scrap that, he needs to go now https://t.co/VaihQ5Ot8X

“And when they did go long, we made sure to win the second balls from them and I thought the midfield was fantastic.

“And on the flip side, some of the play around the opposition box were things that we have been working on, and myself and Dobbo have been crying out for this style of football.
“Everyone bills us as this long-ball and set plays team, and I think, ‘great’, keep billing us like that because we know what we do.”
Wycombe next face Charlton on New Year’s Day.
