Anis Mehmeti has been a shining light in an otherwise dark landscape for Wycombe Wanderers fans in recent weeks.
The Chairboys’ form of late, four straight defeats without scoring, is starting to become reminiscent of the winless start of the season.
Very few chances are being created and it’s becoming quite predictable that the opposition will be the dominant team and score from a fairly scrappy goal or two.
Hopefully that changes soon so the Chairboys can end the season positively, but in the meantime, the displays from Mehmeti have been something special.

The former Norwich youngster has always been a talent, and after being initially signed for the ‘B team’ at Wycombe, he was fast-tracked to the senior squad and has really come into his own in the last few games.
His quick feet and precision are of a level that Wanderers fans haven’t been able to enjoy too much over the years, and if he had more Championship-quality players around him, I have no doubt that Mehmeti would be notching goals and assists for fun.
Of course, Wycombe don’t have the luxury of going and spending seven-figure sums on attacking players like that, so they’ll be hoping to tie him down to a long-term contract, avoid any suitors from the upper echelons of the Championship or beyond and then watch him impress in League One next season.
Alex Samuel was brought into the side for the 1-0 defeat at QPR on Tuesday, and his performance almost summed up Wanderers’ whole season.
It was a typically tireless display from the energetic forward, but he just lacked that quality to put the ball in the net.
This lack of cutting-edge around him is what’s holding Mehmeti back, particularly with the drop in form of players like Daryl Horgan.
Playing off Uche Ikpeazu, Mehmeti will still have the capability of producing more special moments for Wycombe before the campaign is out, and there are better opportunities to do so in the coming weeks.
Preston’s visit to Adams Park will bring back good memories for the players, as they tore the Lancashire side apart in the FA Cup in January, scoring more than three goals for the only time this season.

The trip to Barnsley next midweek will be a very difficult one against one of the league’s most in-form teams, but then Wanderers go to Coventry, who are the type of side that they should be capable of challenging for three points against.
Rotherham are also up soon after the international break, so despite the disappointing performances recently, if the Chairboys can support Mehmeti in the forward areas, there could still be points to be had.
