The fan who was taken ill before Wycombe’s match against Blackpool has died.

Mark Bird, 62, was taken to Wexham Park Hospital after suffering from a cardiac arrest in the Woodlands Lounge at Adams Park.

Prior to being taken to hospital, he was treated at the stadium where an air ambulance landed on the pitch.

This caused the game to be delayed by 65 minutes, with goals from Nick Freeman and Alex Samuel saw Wycombe eventually beat Blackpool 2-1.  

However, Mr Bird sadly died later on that evening (January 28).

In a statement on the Wycombe Wanderers website, manager Gareth Ainsworth and chairman Trevor Stroud said: “Our thoughts are with Mark’s family at this very difficult time and we offer the full support of Wycombe Wanderers in any way that we are able to comfort and support them.

“We were saddened to hear before the match that a supporter had been taken ill and made the difficult decision to proceed with the game against Blackpool. On hearing the news, we dedicate our victory to Mark Bird and send our most sincere condolences to all who knew him.
