Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Curtis Thompson has extended his stay at Adams Park until 2021.
The former Notts County man signed a short-term contract in the summer after playing a part in the successful run-in towards promotion last season.
Thompson has now established himself as a regular in the Wanderers midfield with some outstanding performances, leaving Ainsworth in no doubt that the 25-year-old was deserving of a new deal.
Ainsworth said: "It is fantastic news.
"Curtis has been outstanding since he broke in the team and we knew he was a great player at County and he lost his way slightly.
"He has the heart of a lion and you can see how much he loves it here and it is a great acquisition for us.
"We are working hard to get some players in and Curtis is a very welcome addition for us."
Thompson added: "I am delighted and glad to get it done and to be here for another two and a half years.
"I enjoyed it when I initially joined. The lads here are great and they are wonderful people and I am really enjoying my time here.
"We were expected to be near the bottom and the boys have shown we can compete in this league. I am really enjoying playing with Gapey in the midfield and I am loving playing in a team that works really hard for each other."
