Chairboys fans and ex team-mates of Paul McCarthy have expressed their sorrow on social media at the sad passing of the defender from a suspected heart attack at the age of 45.
Former Wanderers players, who played with McCarthy, in the brilliant run to the FA Cup semi-final in 2001, and staunch Wycombe supporters shared their grief on Twitter at the Irishman's death.

Such sad news to hear about Paul Mccarthy. He was, is and always will be a @wwfcofficial legend. A hero of my childhood.

We've had some great defenders over the years but none better than Paul McCarthy. Tough as they come and nothing was left on the pitch.

And a very poignant twist...
It was 16 years ago today that Paul McCarthy scored a 120th minute equaliser at Wimbledon to keep our FA Cup dreams alive.
