Maltman’s Green School’s gymnastics team enjoyed a bumper day on Saturday as they won three gold medals.

The Year 6 A and B squads travelled to the Southampton Gymnastics Centre to compete in the Southern Region Sports Acro and Tumbling competition.

They quickly set about collecting a raft of medals as they claimed gold in the tumbling, pairs and group events.

Maltman’s first success came in the tumbling competition as Tara Sadlier and Isabel Whitburn went toe to toe for top spot.

After three tumbles apiece the pair could only be separated by 0.4 points as Sadlier took the gold and Whitburn picked up a respectable silver medal.

Sadlier’s performance secures her a place at the National Finals in May where she will be joined by Olivia Rowan and Amber Whitefoord after they came first in the under-11 pair’s competition.

The pair’s event proved to be particularly fruitful for the school as Grace Short and Claudia Mowat won bronze and all five of their teams finished in the top five.

The afternoon concluded with Maltman’s picking up their third and final gold in the group sequences, which sees teams compete in balances and group balances across a two minute period.

While both their squads gave strong displays, the A team proved to be too strong for the opposition as they secured top step on the podium and added extra shine to an already glimmering day.
