WYCOMBE Wanderers’ home match against Fleetwood Town was called off just 20 minutes before the scheduled kick off.
Referee Andy Davies – who courted controversy by abandoned Blues’ home game with Bristol Rovers last season over health and safety fears – waited as long as possible before deciding the Adams Park playing surface was unplayable.
Adams Park has undersoil heating but it was not turned on overnight, only being switched on this morning.
Davies initially deemed the pitch unplayable at noon but was prepared to allow time for it to thaw out and undertook a number of inspections.
He allowed the players of both teams to warm up on the pitch but eventually decided to postpone the game at 2.40pm – leaving Fleetwood players and staff to contemplate a fruitless 500 mile round journey.
