LEON Johnson said his last gasp equaliser against Scunthorpe was just desserts for Wanderers' never say die attitude.
With time virtually up the central defender headed home only his fourth ever goal for the club to snatch a point with a 1-1 draw.
Blues had long been been reduced to ten men after Josh Scowen picked up two bookings and with the visitors going ahead courtesy of a goal that owed much to a huge deflection it looked like it wasn't going to be their day.
But Johnson said his goal was a reward for his team mates' collective spirit when the odds were stacked against them.
He said: "It would have been easy to go 1-0 down, down to ten men, and give up - or we'd have had an excuse - but we kept plugging away and working hard, trying to pick up seconds and kept battling. Thankfully we got one back in the end.
"Going down to ten men again, it was good character from everyone staying in the game and working hard. We knew we'd get a chance. I said to the lads, 'stay in the game, make sure they don't get another one and we'll get a chance'. Thankfully it fell to me.
"I think we deserved it. We worked hard, showed great character as a team. We got a chance and we took it.
"It would have been easy to say it's a lucky goal and heads go down, but it's the spirit within the squad - we stuck together, we battled on and got a last minute goal.
"No one can say we didn't give maximum effort today, because we did. I'm proud of the lads. We could have easily given up when we went down to ten men but we worked and worked.
"We had two players come off with injury so we had to reshuffle things. A lot of things went against us today but we kept digging in and ended up getting a last minute equaliser."
Johnson added: "It was a workmanlike performance. We could have played better and passed it a bit more, but saying that I think we had the better chances, especially 11 v 11. If you stick one or two of them away the game changes a bit."
The 32-year-old said the late turnaround gives Blues something to build on as they travel to struggling Northampton Town on Saturday.
He said: "They have picked up in recent weeks. If we play like that and battle like that, and stick one or two of our chances away, hopefully we can get a win."
