It's been wonderful to spend so much time meeting people across the constituency over the last few weeks across Beaconsfield, Marlow and the South Bucks villages, writes the MP for Beaconsfield Joy Morrissey. I am committed to ensuring that your voice is heard loud and clear in Parliament.
The recent budget has been a topic of significant concern, especially among our local business owners. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with entrepreneurs and small business owners from across the constituency to discuss the financial challenges they are facing.
Many have expressed their worries over the impact of the National Insurance rise, which will inevitably increase costs, stifle job creation, and place further pressure on their already stretched resources. Labour’s budget fails to support the very businesses that are the lifeblood of our local economy, risking jobs and livelihoods in the process.
One of my main priorities remains delivering a much-needed secondary school for Burnham. I am proud to be working cross-party on this issue, collaborating with Tan Dhesi MP, local councillors, and stakeholders.
Last month, I was pleased to meet with them to discuss our shared commitment to making this vision a reality. It's essential that children in Burnham have access to a local secondary school, ensuring they can thrive in their education without the burden of long commutes. I will keep fighting for this vital investment in our children's future.
Honouring the sacrifices of those who served our country is incredibly important to me, and it was a privilege to mark Remembrance Sunday by laying a wreath in Beaconsfield. The act of remembrance allows us to reflect on the courage and dedication of those who gave so much for our freedoms.
I was also deeply honoured to place a cross in the Garden of Remembrance in Parliament on behalf of Beaconsfield, Marlow, and the South Bucks villages. It’s a reminder of the debt we owe to those who have gone before us, ensuring we never forget their bravery.
It’s always a pleasure to be out and about in Marlow. I had the chance to visit the Court Garden Leisure Complex, where I was impressed by the brand-new equipment in the gym. The upgrades are a fantastic boost for local residents looking to stay active.
It was also great to see the excellent work that has been carried out on West Street, with new paving enhancing the charm of our beautiful town. Marlow was buzzing with activity, and I was delighted to cheer on the park runners at Higginson Park. Seeing our community come together in such vibrant ways is always a highlight.
This month has been both exciting and challenging as I take up a new position as the new Shadow Deputy Chief Whip. I am truly honoured to have been asked by Kemi Badenoch to step into this role.
Every day that passes under this Labour Government underscores the urgent need for a strong Opposition in Parliament. We must hold them to account for their ideological attacks on free speech, aspiration, businesses, pensioners, farmers, and hard-working families. Now, more than ever, it is vital that we stand up for sound governance over political dogma.
As we move forward, I remain committed to representing the interests of Beaconsfield, Marlow, and all our South Bucks villages in Parliament. Whether it's challenging the Government on damaging economic policies, advocating for local education, or celebrating the spirit of our towns, I am here to fight for what matters to you. Please know that if there’s anything I can assist you with, I am here to help. You can reach me at joy.morrissey.mp@parliament.uk or on 01494 977 505.
