Since my last letter from Westminster I have been busy out and about in the constituency, writes the MP for Wycombe, Emma Reynolds.
Wycombe has a proud industrial heritage, which is why I was so pleased to visit William Hands, the local furniture makers. The company started from William’s house on Dashwood Avenue in 1906. It manufactured and crafted the chairs for the coronations of George VI and Elizabeth II.
I visited Pladis’ Research and Development hub , the company owns several global brands including McVities and Jacob’s, its factory in High Wycombe does pioneering work on its recipes.
I was delighted to visit Bucks New University again and to see the investment they are making in state-of-the-art facilities. I also visited Cressex Community School to hear about the great achievements of their students too, I look forward to visiting again.
Wearing waterproofs and wellies on a recent rainy day, I was given a wonderful tour of the local farms. We visited a wide range of agricultural farms, starting at the award-winning Lacey’s farm in Bolter End. Heading then to a sheep farmer in Fingest, to the grain stores and arable farming in both Frieth and Cadmore Common. We stopped at ‘The Barn’ in Turville Heath overlooking the common for a traditional ploughman's lunch. The cafe can only be reached by foot, bike or horseback and is nestled in the heart of the Chiltern Villages.
I attended the opening of Primark in the Eden Centre which was not only a big occasion for their local staff but also many from around the country who came to lend a hand. I was also impressed by the work of the incredible charity New Life, a discount clothes store in the Eden Centre. They donate 100% of their profits to help disabled children and their families access much-needed specialist equipment.
I was honoured to take part in the Mayor’s Battle of Britain service and pay respect to all those who fought for our country. It was a real privilege to visit the Royal Star and Garter care home where I learnt about the excellent care given to veterans and their partners.
