It is great to be back in Parliament after a busy conference recess – from meeting residents to attending local events, writes Joy Morrissey, the MP for Beaconsfield.

Before the recess, it was a busy and productive time in Westminster. I remain committed to championing the issues that matter most to residents across Beaconsfield, Marlow, and the South Bucks villages.

I will continue to keep to my promise when it comes to defending our precious Green Belt. Since Labour came into Government, they have made it clear that the Green Belt in South Bucks is up for grabs, a stance I strongly oppose. Recently, I met with Buckinghamshire Council Leader Martin Tett and fellow Bucks MPs to discuss the potential impact of the Government’s changes to the National Planning Policy Framework on our local area.

I firmly believe that housing needs should be determined locally, with planning decisions led by our local councils, who understand our unique circumstances and the importance of the Green Belt. I do not support Labour’s push to redefine parts of the Green Belt as ‘grey belt’. This is a short-sighted political move that will not solve the housing crisis. I will continue to advocate for sustainable development that respects both our environment and local needs.

In Parliament, I spoke out strongly against the Government's deeply unfair decision to withdraw Winter Fuel Payments from millions of pensioners, including many across Beaconsfield, Marlow, and the South Bucks villages. This decision is deeply unjust and represents a clear political choice that punishes pensioners while giving pay rises to the Government’s union paymasters. Pensioners deserve better, and I will continue to fight for their rights and ensure their voices are heard in Westminster.

Outside of Westminster, I have been busy meeting with residents and attending local events. One of the highlights was attending the Denham Festival in the Field, which marked the 130th anniversary of Denham Parish Council. It was a fantastic event, and I would like to thank the council for organising such a wonderful day for the community. I also visited the Green Village at the Marlow Carnival and it was delightful to see the community being active in protecting our environment and wildlife.  Events like this are a great reminder of the strength and spirit of our local communities.

Last month, I was also proud to support British Farming Day and stand up for the farmers in Beaconsfield, Marlow, and South Bucks. Our local farmers play a crucial role in protecting the environment and ensuring our food security. I fully support the NFU’s call for at least 50% of food supplied to the public sector to come from British farms. It’s a practical step we can take to ensure our food is sourced sustainably and supports our local agricultural communities.

I will continue to work tirelessly on your behalf, ensuring that your priorities are championed locally and in Westminster. As ever, If I can be of help to you on any issue, please do not hesitate to contact me at joy.morrissey.mp@parliament.uk or 01494 977 505.
