After a busy four weeks since the general election, I am committed to Wycombe Hospital and the high street, writes Emma Reynolds.
This is my first letter from Westminster. It is a huge honour to be elected as the MP for Wycombe, the first Labour MP here since 1951. I would like to thank all those who voted in the general election and I promise to represent all my constituents to the best of my ability.
It has been a busy first few weeks. My main priority has been recruiting a team to give the very best service to my constituents. I have also met with key local decision-makers, businesses and other pillars of the community. My first meeting was with the Chief Executive of Wycombe hospital to discuss the vital investment needed in the hospital. I also met with the Buckinghamshire Council leader and Chief Executive to talk about how we can work together.
I visited Wycombe Museum to discuss how I can support this fantastic charity and their wonderful collection of items which celebrate our town’s proud heritage.
Last week, I met with High Wycombe BIDCo (the organisation which works with businesses in the town centre) to discuss the positive change they have brought to Wycombe town centre and their plans for the future. I reassured them that I am holding the Council to account on the Future High Streets Fund and I am seeking an urgent meeting to discuss how the £11.8m is being spent to fulfil the Fund’s stated purpose of renewing the high street.
I was delighted to visit New Meaning Training, an alternative training and education provider based in Desborough which helps young people who have struggled at school. The Government are committed to breaking down the barriers to opportunity for young people and I look forward to working with schools across the constituency, New Media Training and others.
It is a huge privilege to be appointed by the Prime Minister to serve as the new Pensions Minister, working across the Treasury and the Department of Work and Pensions. I am leading a Pensions Review to ensure better retirement incomes for future pensioners. However, I want to reassure my constituents that, despite my Ministerial role, you will continue to be my priority.
