World Book Day is an event which takes place once a year, often embraced by schools. It includes dressing up as a book character and celebrating reading.
“This year we wanted to make World Book Day bigger than ever to encourage the whole school to love reading” Gemma Morgans - Head of English.
Stony Dean School takes World Book Day very seriously, as it is extremely important. It is loved by all and draws attention to reading.
In the morning we have a school assembly, often held by an English teacher. First, they will speak about the importance of World Book Day. Then, a competition is held, offering students and teachers the opportunity to win prizes.
Leading up to World Book Day, a unique theme is picked and everyone is invited to dress up. In previous years, the themes have varied from comics to Roald Dahl. This has allowed us to witness our favorite teachers dress up in some hilarious and interesting outfits. This year’s theme is Adventure.
“As an English department we dress up every year, in a group costume. This year we’ve decided to go as Peter Pan characters.” Ciara Keighran – English Teacher.
There has been some rivalry between teachers this year, as it can get competitive. Every year the costumes are crazy, therefore it’s a very exciting day. Both students and staff are extremely enthusiastic about World Book Day this year and are excited to see what it brings.
