NEW landlords have moved into The Three Horseshoes pub in Flackwell Heath and are inviting villagers along for a glass of bubbly this evening. Adam Budd and Mandy Howard, who recently moved to the village, took over the pub last week and are holding an opening party with live music. Drinks and canapés will be served from 7pm, all welcome.

A SINGER from Bourne End is looking forward to seeing her band’s X Factor audition on television. Joanna Ronan, 25, has entered the contest with her group Lightbulb Thieves, a foursome who record ‘urban’ music and appeared in the 2010 film StreetDance 3D. She has been told the audition will be broadcast in the next few weeks – but competition rules mean she cannot reveal how the band got on.

ORGANISERS of Flackwell Heath’s popular Cherry Fayre have handed over a cheque for £4,000 to the village library. The sum was the profit generated by this year’s event. David Johncock, chairman of Flackwell Heath Community Library, expressed his appreciation to all the members of the fayre committee for their outstanding work in staging the summer fayre.

BOURNE END drama group Future Forum stages their own play called ‘Virus’ at the Community Centre next week. It is about a school trip where the minibus breaks down and leaves the group at a run-down hotel in the middle of nowhere. From September 13 - 15, with performances at 8pm. WOOBURN Park 10k returns on Sunday, along with a gentler 3k run for families, and sprint races for younger children. The annual race is organised by Wooburn Park Sports Association and has helped raise £15,000 towards the recent refurbishment of the pavilion. See: www.wooburnpark10k.com

BOURNE END & Cookham Rotary Club staged a Petanque tournament at the King’s Head in Little Marlow last week - with 20 different Rotary teams taking part. With a lovely summer evening, the eventual winners were the ‘Rampant Lions’ of Bourne End & Cookham with Windsor St. George a close second.

ST PETER's Church in Loudwater has a range of activities for pensioners on Tuesday afternoons. A NEW history group in Flackwell Heath is set to hold its first major event next week - with a talk about the agricultural workers’ uprising of the 1830s. Jill Chambers is a national authority on the so-called 'Swing Riots' in England, but her talk, entitled ‘The Buckinghamshire Machine Breakers’, will focus on Flackwell Heath, Wooburn and Chepping Wycombe. The event, organised by Flackwell Heath Local History Group, is in the Sarney Room at Flackwell Heath Community Centre, on Wednesday, September 12 at 7.30pm.
