By Jove there is some excellent sporting action taking place at the moment.

I thought the Olympics were good but the Paralympics are truly outstanding.

Seeing Paralympic athletes overcome impairment to compete against others is a sight to behold and I take my hat off to them for their achievements.

Today a friend told me about a third type of games, called the Deaflympics, for those with hearing loss indeed I had never heard of them until today. Apparently their next games will be in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2013.

It seems that whatever disability you have there is sporting event you can take part in and compete on a world level regardless of impairment or age.

Sport is no doubt a good thing and I can see why Sir Ludwig Guttmann came up with the idea to use sport to help rehabilitate the injured servicemen at Stoke Mandeville after the Second World War thus sowing the seed for the Paralympics we are enjoying today.

At this point I would like to give quote from Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the Modern Olympics:

“The important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part. The essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well.”

After hearing that quote for the first time I must say that I fully agree and right now even my good self is fired up and ready to undertake some sporting action.

Today I even looked at the website for the running club based at Handy Cross. Of course the pictures showed young people who were all physically fit competing against each other.

Obviously my terrible obesity is a bit of a drawback as I have all that extra weight to cart around and my age is also against me not to mention if my old problem is playing up.

In the Paralympics there are different classes depending on impairment but in the normal games it seems only the fittest and youngest are catered for.

Why can't there be different classes in normal sports?

I'm sure categories could be created for all age groups and for all body sizes. For example instead of just one 100 yard race why not have a 100 yards for those over twenty stone?

I'm sure some sort of support could be made from strapping to secure my bulbous stomach to stop it wobbling around when I run?

Maybe someone will realise the world is full of people of different shapes, sizes and ages and give everyone opportunity to compete on a level playing field so we can all enjoy sport.

There was once a scheme launched in 1972 by the Sports Council called “Sport for all” however it seems that in this modern age it's not the case.

Maybe I should start the Flab-olympics or maybe the Peoplelympics so we can all have the opportunity to enjoy sport and represent TeamGB?

What do you think?
