I knew that working as a Games Maker at the Paralympics was going to be inspirational but in reality it was far more than that. The determination and stamina exhibited by each athlete transcends professionalism on every level.

The Pharmacist Games Maker role at the Paralympics has been the same at the Olympics. However there have been additional learning areas that we have had to cover.

We have learnt more about the wound dressings and how the various profiles of the athletes needs such as amputees and spinal cord injuries, along with the sport in which they are participating will affect the choice of dressing.

I met some of the technicians working at Ottobock in the athletes village. Ottobock provide maintenance and repairs of prostheses, orthoses and wheelchairs for Paralympians. They have a repair station in all of the three Paralympic Villages.

Working at the Paralympics has been an enlightening experience, allowing me to build on the sports knowledge that I learnt for The Olympics. Having the privilege to meet some of the Paralympic athletes and listen to their incredible stories from around the world has made this an unforgettable end to my journey as a Games Maker.

The athletes have been truly inspirational and I am a better person for having met them.
