WITH reference to Cllr Snaith’s letter on August 17, I object strongly to the proposal that there should be a town council for High Wycombe. It will involve yet another layer of local government to be paid for by overburdened council taxpayers.
I am a pensioner and council tax payer. I wish to see council tax decreased rather than increased. Many people, both young and old, are currently in financial difficulties and struggling to pay everyday living costs without an additional charge being introduced. It is far from clear what additional benefits a town council would bring to town residents.
It would seem prudent to me to progress quickly to a unitary authority to achieve economies rather than further fragmenting an already chaotic system.
I note that Cllr Snaith plans to meet Steve Baker MP. This letter has been copied to Mr Baker for his information.
