CAMPAIGNERS fighting against plans for an incinerator are preparing for a crunch meeting next week.
Buckinghamshire County Council's scrutiny committee will examine the proposed waste from energy plant in Calvert, north Bucks, on Tuesday.
It is estimated the plant would save £100m over 30 years and generate low carbon electricity for up to 36,000 homes.
Campaigner Peter Darvas, who lives near the site, said: “It's an idiotic scheme. There are such fundamental issues, it could be cheaper, there's better technology, it could go by rail.”
He said the amount of heavy lorries travelling to the site will be 'ridiculous'.
Some will be coming from a new waste transfer station at the High Heavens rubbish tip in Booker.
Julie Fourcade, spokesman for FCC Environment UK, which was awarded the contract, said: “We are confident that the facility will bring important economic and environmental benefits to Buckinghamshire in securing the sustainable treatment of the county’s non-recyclable waste for the next 30 years.”
