A Bucks New University graduate is exhibiting her work at a national event.
Tanya Gregory a 2011 graduate from Bucks New University, has been selected from 209 applicants to exhibit in the prestigious British Glass Biennale.
Tanya, who has been making glass in the London area for six years, will be one of 71 artists who will exhibit at Biennale, and will showcase a selection of her work from her 1st series, ‘From Paper to Glass’.
Tanya said: "I grew up with the sea and its quietening, calming, absorbing and meditative effect. I have tried to replicate this quality in my work using form, colour and surface as the initial attraction. Light, transparency, wisps and bubbles are used as compositional devices to create a sense of space, an unexpected dimension, an optical illusion to encourage the act of looking. "
Originally from New Zealand, Tanya attended Victoria University and trained as an accountant with Ernst & Young, Wellington, before moving to London, seeking overseas experience. Her childhood on the Kapiti coast is a key influence in her work From Paper to Glass Series I.
The International Festival of Glass 2012 sees a worldwide celebration of 50 years of studio glassmaking and events across the globe. The British Glass Biennale takes place in Stourbridge, West Midlands from August 24 to September 15.
