A 20-YEAR-old who lost both her parents to cancer within a year of each other is holding a quiz night this Friday to help fund a climb in their memory.

Fredrica Bowkett, who lives in Bourne End, is holding the evening at Tylers Green Village Hall on Friday to help raise funds towards her Mount Kilimanjaro climb next June.

It will be ten years next summer since her mum, Gillian, died in her mid 40s from bowel cancer and 11 years since her dad, Robert, died aged 47 from chest cancer.

She aims to raise money to help cover the cost of the trip and anything above that will go to Macmillan Cancer Research and Rowan's Hospice, which both helped her parents.

She said: "They were both as fit as fiddles.

"My dad was a Brigadier in the Marines. He was respected by so many people as a boss and as a friend too.

"My mum was quite quiet but she was lovely."

The last house they lived in was in Portsmouth, with her brother, Edward, 23, who now lives in Birmingham.

When her parents died they moved to live with their aunt and uncle, Ros Thomas and Chris Young, in Beaconsfield.

Fredrica now lives with her boyfriend and is studying English Literature at Bath Spa University.

She has already donated £200 to the charities.

She explained why she chose this particular challenge: "My dad was that kind of person. He was an explorer. "It was part of his job but he loved it.

"It is such a challenge too. I have never done anything like it before."

There are still tickets available. It runs from 7-10pm on Friday. There will be a quiz, nibbles, bar and band. Entry is £15 with teams of 8 people. Contact Fredrica on 07596225719 or email fredrica@hotmail.co.uk to book your place.
