OLYMPIC canoe hero Ed McKeever popped along to a social club in Wooburn Green last week to show off his gold medal.
The ‘Usain Bolt of Dorney Lake’ lives in the village with his fiancée, and went along to a community cake sale at the Wooburn Club on Thursday.
The new 200m sprint champion, who grew up near Bath, was joined by MP Dominic Grieve and youngsters from the canoe section of Bourne End Junior Sports Club.
Julia Gale, who works at the club, said: "It was a fantastic morning. He stayed for about an hour signing autographs, flags and mingling with adults and children."
McKeever, 28, is set to get married to PE teacher Anya Kucjak in Beaconsfield next month, but says he will leave his gold medal at home for the wedding.
"I don’t want to take focus away from the bride, that’s not the done thing to do", he added.
On setting an Olympic record of 35.087 seconds in his heat, before storming home in the final at Dorney Lake, the trainee accountant said: "I just felt relief, not elation. But I am so happy I could do it in front of the home crowd, it’s brilliant."
