How disappointing to read in the paper that plans for a much needed facility in Prestwood have been turned down by Chiltern District Council (BFP August 10). I fail to comprehend the reasoning behind this decision. How can a development be “out of character with the village” when it is denying residents and visitors a place to meet and enjoy a coffee? The claim that it would “irreversibly harm the street scene” is totally ridiculous as there are already garish signs above existing premises.
As for the statement from CDC stating that the road is not wide enough for more traffic and there is insufficient room to park, who, may I ask, passed planning applications for shops and residential properties on a busy, but too narrow road. There is a public car park within 100 yards of the property, with free parking for 60 minutes.
And finally, regarding the safety of children, employees of existing establishments who use Blacksmith Lane as their private car park and parents collecting children from school, pose more of a problem than a few cars visiting a coffee shop.
