Every decade has a defining moment and as far as I am concerned it will take a lot to surpass the London Olympics in the 2010's.
The doubting Thomas's, of which at one time even I was perhaps one, were swept aside and for 17 days our nation became one as everyone got behind TeamGB.
The athletes are now making their way home and seats in the Olympic stadium are empty however over the next few weeks I would like to explore the Olympic legacy and what the 2012 games have done for our Country.
While the flame may have been extinguished the Olympic spirit is still with us and will remain so for years to come.
What a massive benefit the games have been for our country, the organisation was superb and the small challenges that did arise were easily overcome.
The UK was catapulted to the front of the world stage and we showed everyone just how great we really are. Let's face it these were the best Olympics ever!
After seeing the action on television even yours truly wanted to join in indeed I even wrote a blog on the subject.
Thanks to the issue of the empty seats more tickets were put on offer and with a little help from my friends even my good self was lucky enough to secure tickets and attended several major Olympic events.
Waiting in the queues to enter the venues there was a real community spirit indeed complete strangers were talking to each other as if they had been friends for years.
When I attended the Olympic Park hundreds of thousands of people were milling around yet there wasn't a single angry word being uttered and everyone was helping each other.
These games were inclusive and anyone was welcome to join the celebrations whether you attended in person or watched on television indeed it was British hospitality at its best.
Billed to 'Inspire a generation' these games have certainly done that. A single sports event over a few days in Summer 2012 has done so much for our Country and we should not let the legacy fade.
There was a space of 64 years from 1948 and 2012 when London hosted the games. We showed the world what we can do so lets hope the games return to London before the next 64 years are up.
Even I want to get involved with sport now and thankfully there is a website which lists special events being put on to give you a chance to have a go yourself and carry on the Olympic Legacy. Click here to find out more.
Did you perhaps attend any Olympic events? Perhaps you would like to share your experiences with us?
We can all say 'London called and I was there too'....
What do you think?
