WHAT a wonderful idea from Mike Chadwick regarding leaving some areas of our currently mown parks unmown, to encourage wild flowers to bloom and seed (Letters, Bucks Free Press, 26/7).
There is however a major problem in that litter louts will soon make a mess and destroy the flowers (if they ever had a chance to bloom).
My wife has been clearing up after litter louts in Hughenden Park and the adjacent National Trust Park for some 13 years plus now. She does this voluntarily because she cannot bear to see the park being ruined by vast quantities of litter.
In Hughenden Park, vast swathes of daffodils appear in spring. Immediately they flower sundry folk pick them and allow their children to run riot amongst the flowers, trampling as they go.
At night the drinkers and drug-takers appear and toss their discarded bottles, some broken, and cans into the daffodils.
There is much worse litter but, this being a family newspaper, I will spare your readers further description.
For the above reasons I would caution WDC from trying to leave park areas unmown, there are too many people nowadays who are happy to visit our parks but who, sadly, do not care in what state they leave them.
