I CAN only agree with the sentiments expressed by Roy Gibbons in his letter in the July 27 edition of the Bucks Free Press in which he comments on the reorganisation of Beaconsfield Town Council.

At the last election in 2011, 12 Conservative (six unopposed) and four Independent councillors were elected.

This very large majority meant that they could, without any consultation make changes and reorganise the town council to suit their ideals.

They appointed a leader for the town council and politicised its organisation by introducing a system of political balance for membership of council committees.

The question is why would they do this?

They have a large majority and voting on issues is a very rare occurrence.

I have no idea what their motives were but they have marginalised and further weakened the ability of the council’s independent members to influence decisions by limiting their membership of standing committees.

I would like to see all town councillors working as a team where each councillor is using his or her expertise, commitment, and drive for the benefit of the community, and all councillors should have the right to be a full member of each standing committee if they so wish.

Politicisation of the town council is denying these benefits to the town’s people.
