The weather is steadily getting warmer and to be honest it's getting a bit too much for me.
Making my way down the High Street today I had to mop my brow with my hanky several times as the exertion of walking in such heat was just too much for my decrepit body to stand.
Walking along with my hand firmly on my lunch box the thought of tucking into a bite to eat was all that spurred me on.
Naturally I found the first bench to sit on and under the shade of a tree in the grounds of the Parish Church yours truly started to unwrap my trusty sandwiches.
To my horror the first signs of mould were appearing on edges of the bread that my sandwiches were made of.
I either had to go hungry or buy more food.
With money so tight these days my only option was to pick off the mould.
A similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago.
Despite the bread just about being within the best before date I find that some makes of loaf tend to go off before others.
Recently I have had problems with other foods from certain shops going off before their sell by date and quite honestly it's just no on especially with food the price that it is.
On one occasion I even had tangerines go mouldy within just two days of purchase despite the best before date being a week away.
Only the other day a friend of mine was speaking to me about this very issue.
For those living on their own who don't eat much a loaf of bread can last an age.
Why on earth don't they make half-loaves for households with just one person in them so people have a chance of eating the product before it goes off?
All the two for one offers in the shops are pointless for those living on their own as the chances are the food will go mouldy before it is eaten.
Naturally being obese I can eat up food like a vacuum cleaner so having too much food is no problem for me but even I suffer with food going mouldy unexpectedly.
I wonder how many shops have food returned when it had going off before the best before date?
Next time a loaf goes off in my larder unexpectedly maybe it should be returned for a full refund? I'm sure that could be the subject for a very interesting blog.
Do you have a problem with food going mouldy without warning?
What do you think?
