BEACONSFIELD SYCOB must win three of their remaining five fixtures to definitely secure a Southern League Central Division play-off berth, according to manager Byron Walton.
There were fears that Beaconsfield were looking a little leg-weary after failing to find the net in their previous three outings, but Walton was delighted with his team’s 2-1 win at in-form Burnham on Saturday, giving their promotion hopes a vital lift.
He said, “The situation will be a lot clearer after this weekend, but we believe that if we win three of our five remaining fixtures we’ll definitely be in the play-offs.”
The 2-1 win certainly helps, but Walton admits it about conserving energy down the home straight.
He said: “We’ve eased off in training because the players have been working really hard, but our fitness levels will be tested this weekend with two fixtures so we’re only training once a week from now on.”
“After being up there for much of the season, it would be nice to finish in the top five so we’ll keep plugging away. Hopefully by the time we play Northwood they could be out of the running.”
