MATHLETICS is set to be the newest way of teaching numeracy to children in South Bucks as an Amersham based education company combine maths and exercise in their innovative classes.
Numberfit uses physical activity and competitive sport to engage and excite children when teaching them maths.
Steering away from traditional classroom techniques, the innovative education method claims to improve concentration, memory and enjoyment of learning because of the adrenaline released when exercising.
The creative lessons for mathletes aged between 2-and-a-half and 11, involve warming up the body, warming up the mind, math theory and team games.
But as well as learning important arithmetics skills, mathletes will be keeping fit and learning different exercises.
St Mary’s School in Gerrards Cross use Numberfit for the younger pupils. Head of the Junior House, Alison Maycock said: “Numberfit is an exciting and energetic way to learn, making numeracy great fun.
“Combining exercise of the body with learning different numeracy skills is an innovative idea, and it keeps the girls stimulated and well motivated. They really enjoy competing against each other and participating in all of the different activities.”
The programme, which starts at pre-school level up to Key Stage 2 and follows the national curriculum, uses all teaching styles to suit the various ways children learn, from visual, auditory and kinesthetic.
Numberfit runs in schools around the Amersham area and are soon to begin classes in Marlow and Beaconsfield.
