SHORTLY after performing Annie at The Elgiva in Chesham one of the lead characters and his wife, Judy, headed to Tanzania to help complete an orphanage.
Steve Martins, who played Oliver Warbucks, and his wife, Judy, who also performed in the show went to Mwanza in Tanzania to help with essential work at a new, but so far incomplete orphanage.
The couple are working with several local Christian NGOs, as well as Caritas, to help raise funds to complete two buildings: the dormitories/ sanitary block, and the kitchen/store/dining room, to house 26 Busega Children.
At the moment the children are in temporary accommodation, which was severely damaged in recent rains, and so currently exist with no sanitary facilities.
The Chesham Bois Catholic Players’ production of Annie ran from January 18-21. Profits from the registered charity group’s productions throughout the year will be focusing on helping to finish the new buildings to a habitable level.
