A VILLAGE fighting to save its pub could end up buying it in an act of defiance against developers.
Villagers of Butlers Cross are combating the threat of losing its focal point, The Russell Arms, by working on a business plan which will encourage the community to invest in the pub.
The pub, which has an asking price of £425,000, could otherwise be converted, and with the only other community amenity being the village hall, villagers are determined to keep their local.
The residents of the village, which has around 400 houses, are hoping develop the pub into a thriving social hub that the whole community and visitors can enjoy.
Matt Porter, the leading force in this campaign, said: “It's a tragedy for local communities when their village pub goes under and we are going to do everything we can to prevent that from happening.
“I've been overwhelmed by the strength of support so far and we are encouraging everyone in the local area to join us in our campaign to rescue The Russell.”
