A SKATE ramp proposed by a group of village teens is set to go ahead after a cash boost from the Royal Borough.

Cookham Parish Council have been promised a cash boost of £5,000 by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead for a skate ramp to be built at Alfred Major Recreation Ground.

Councillor Mike Barnes said: “The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead have promised to contribute an additional sum.

“Whilst I’m not aware of anything being signed as yet, I’m confident the funds are in place.”

Cllr Barnes has been an active supporter of the ramp since a group of village youngsters first asked for it back in August.

He said: “Alfred Major has a number of swings and an adventure area but we need to cater for all ages, from toddlers upwards.

“The youngsters approached us so there’s obviously a demand for it, they gave a good presentation and I think it will give them something to do.

“In addition, a skate park in Kidwells in Maidenhead has been a huge success. The one in Alfred Major will be on a much smaller scale, it’s a skate ramp rather than a whole park but it will be good for the youngsters.”

Cllr Barnes is confident Cookham youngsters will respect the new ramp which will be installed in the late spring.

He said: “There’s no legislation for youngsters but you just hope that they respect the equipment. It’s small scale so I don’t think the usage will cause a problem.

“It will be in the middle of the park some distance from housing.”
