A YOUTH project formed by a Prestwood woman has come a long way since it started three years ago and is hoping to expand even further.

In 2008 Jennie Joy decided to take it upon herself to provide a service to the young people in the community she lived in.

With the help of Neil Spencer, who works behind the scenes of the charity, they set up Connect 4 Children and Young People.

It provides an array of activities for five to 17-year-olds and particularly from 11 years plus including boxing, a motorbike project, and a girls chill zone which involves pampering sessions.

Mr Spencer said: "The young people who participate are growing in their role and growing a sense of community. It gives them a sense of direction rather than hanging out on the streets."

The Playzone Motor Project give 11-17-year-olds the chance to ride a motorbike in a safe environment. It had to move from a field next to the Deep Mill Diner in Great Missenden to Terrick but hopes to find a new site nearer to High Wycombe.

Mr Spencer said: "We are expanding. in the next few months and there will be several sites in use."

They receive grants from interested parties including Comic Relief and Buckinghamshire County Council.

But more is needed. Mr Spencer added: "As we look to expand more support is needed. Funding and support is needed. We are getting lots of support from Little Missenden Parish Council."

The project activity leader, Jennie Joy, is supported by a small team and thanked every one who has made the projects a success.

He said: "She's absolutely committed and very keen to give the community the best possible opportunity. She works hard to deliver that."
