FOR years now we have been blundering about in the stygian gloom cast by the ‘eco-friendly’ modern light bulbs, but no more. Just before Christmas the entrepreneur who runs the electrical shop in Hazlemere advertised the old-style incandescent light bulbs. I have to say they are brilliant in both senses of the word.

We now have instant light and despite the largest bulb purchased being 60 watts we can now see far better then in the past years of self-exile to the eco bulbs – a real boon to those getting on in years.

I returned to buy more in the New Year; they are running out, and told him how much better they are compared to the eco bulbs. He rejoined that he wished he had a £1 for everyone who has praised the old-style bulbs.

Just to satisfy the green/eco-friendly brigade, we only use the ‘proper’ bulbs where we need to read.

My heartfelt thanks to the entrepreneur who has made our lives brilliant again.
