IS it me or is it Royal Mail lacking in Christmas spirit?
The attached photograph depicts a Christmas card that was sent to me from Ipswich and withheld by Marlow sorting office until I paid the £1.22 postage due.
The card is 5mm wider than permitted by normal letter post (the white envelope complies) and should have had a ‘large’ 2nd class stamp attached (58p, instead of 36p).
You will see on the postage due label the words ‘Revenue Protection’, which in most circumstances, I am sure, is a virtuous business principle.
At this time of year, however, I should have thought that such an action damages a company’s image and hence fails to protect its revenue stream.
With this kind of blinkered attitude to customer service, I am not surprised that Royal Mail’s profits are suffering; bring on the competition!
