A MAN has today admitted raping two women in the late 1980s, including a victim in Marlow.

John Walker, 51, from Cotterells, Hemel Hempstead, pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown Court.

He admitted one count of rape and one count of indecent assault in an attack on an 18-year-old woman at Marlow railway station in 1989.

He also admitted one count of rape and two further counts of indecent assault in relation to an attack on a 25-year-old woman in Wembley in 1987.

Walker, who was arrested by Thames Valley Police officers in October, was remanded in custody to appear at Oxford Crown Court for sentencing on February 10.

Pete Beirne, from the Major Crime Review Team (MCRT), said: “This result shows that Thames Valley Police remain committed to the careful review and re-investigation of unsolved historic serious sexual assault cases.

“Offenders who think they have got away with a crime over the passage of time should be aware the MCRT will be doing their utmost to bring them to justice and solve crime.

“I hope that today’s result will give victims of serious sexual crime the confidence to report incidents, the confidence that they will be investigated fully, and the confidence that Thames Valley Police will work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. This applies to offences both historic and current.

“This group of officers from the MCRT, together with our partners, remain dedicated in our commitment to ensuring the very highest of standards of investigation are maintained in solving such crimes and seeking justice for victims.

“Our neighbourhoods need to be assured that Thames Valley Police examine all such unsolved crimes and this latest case is one of a significant number of cases being developed.”
