HOWARDS Way actress Dulcie Gray, who lived in Amersham for more than 30 years, has died aged 95.

She and husband Michael Denison, who was also an actor, had lived at Shardeloes, the former ancestral home of the Lord of the Manor, on the outskirts of the town.

Denison died in 1998 and Gray later moved to an actors' residential care home in west London.

She was a member of Amersham Cricket Club and the couple helped raise thousands of pounds for various causes such as Amersham Museum.

In 1986 they appeared on the front page of the South Bucks Star after helping raise more than £2,000 at a charity auction organised by former town mayor Martin King.

Mr King said: “They were just a fantastic couple and did an awful lot for charity. They were lovely people and I've got very fond memories of them.”

Born in Kuala Lumpar in 1915, Gray was best known for her role as Kate Harvey in the BBC One series from 1985 – 1990, but she regularly appeared on stage and screen opposite her husband.

She had been suffering from bronchial pneumonia and died on Tuesday.
