I saw this post on facebook the other day that one of my friends had posted and I wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on it.
‘Do you remember only having 4 TV channels, starting school with singing in the main hall and playing in the woods? Do you remember making dens, playing bulldog and no computers in sight? Do you remember bike rides, being in before dark and getting grounded if you were late? Do you remember that not even the house phone was mobile, vandalism was scratching your name into desks with a compass and recording songs onto tape? Do you remember being able to buy penny sweets that actually cost a penny and text meant words in a book? If you remember all of these then you have come from a much simpler and happier time when Britain was Great….’ I remember all these things and when I have kids that is the kind of world I want them to grow up in. I was walking through a park the other day walking my dog and was actually shocked to see a group of boys having a game of football. It’s very rare to see children playing in the park these days without their parents forcing them, they mostly stay inside playing computer games. I also saw a boy climb a tree and was extremely surprised as I didn’t think they knew how to do that anymore. The only children I ever see in the park or out playing outside their houses is little ones, past the age of 7 they just don't want to know.
Id like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this as I watch my 5 year old niece grow up hooked to screens and it makes me a little sad. She never wants to play outside and she should be. Outside is the best playground, not the living room. Then again I'm quite old fashioned so it might just be me that feels this way....
