FIRE destroyed a kitchen in Flackwell Heath after a pensioner put a metal baking tray in the microwave.
Two fire crews used water jets to stop the flames spreading to the rest of the house, after they were called to the scene in Sedgmoor Road at 2.25pm yesterday.
Watch manager Stuart Buckland, of Beaconsfield Fire Station, said the 91-year-old man did not suffer any injuries.
He said: “Unfortunately he put a metal tray in the microwave, which I think will catch fire almost instantaneously.
“He had put it on and nipped through to the lounge. When he came back the microwave was well alight. The guy is fine, just a little bit shocked.”
The kitchen was severely damaged and the rest of the house was smoke-logged.
