YOUNG adults were recognised for their hard work after completing 14 weeks of training in various vocations to help them find work.

The Lane End Oasis Project held its annual awards evening at the end of last month where Steve Baker MP gave out the certificates.

The project has just completed its fourth year and is run by three churches in the area.

It provides free informal training courses which consists of two hour sessions over 14 weeks in car mechanics, gardening and landscaping, painting and decorating, plumbing, cookery and literacy.

Oasis works mainly with ages 16-25 and aims to reduce unemployment in young adults by providing trade skills.

On the night the project received a £5,000 cheque presented by Bill Reid on behalf of Buckinghamshire Community Foundation.

Thanks were given to other supporters which include British Oxygen, Lane End Players, Lane End Parish Council, John Lewis, the Holy Trinity Church, Methodist Church, Elim Church (all in Lane End), Kensham Farm, Cadmore End and St Katharine's Parmoor.

The project is extending its service to the Micklefield and Wycombe Marsh area and will be called Community Transform. For further information call 01494881112.
