A WOMAN had to be taken to hospital last night after trying to put out a fire started by a smouldering firework.
Fire crews said a recycling bin had caught fire outside a property in Gorelands Lane, Chalfont St Giles, and the woman suffered burns to her right foot after trying to put out the flames.
The fire was out when the crew from Gerrards Cross arrived on the scene shortly after 7.12pm.
Fraser Pearson, spokesman for Bucks Fire and Rescue, said the occupants of the home were alerted after smoke from the bin set off a smoke alarm inside.
He said: "We are concerned that this happened and we hope she makes a speedy recovery.
"We advise people to pour water on fireworks before putting them in a bin, but if a fire starts we advise people to call the fire service. The smoke alarm prevented it becoming more serious."
Firefighters were called out to several bonfires around Bucks on Saturday night.
Two crews had to attend a property in Chapman Lane, Flackwell Heath, just after 8pm, after a bonfire got out of control.
Single crews were also called to properties in West End Street and Deeds Grove in High Wycombe.
Bonfires also prompted 999 calls in Cheddington, Bletchley and Aston Clinton.
No injuries or damage to properties were reported by the crews in these incidents.
