I HATE to say this but I don’t think you lot out there are doing enough to celebrate the forthcoming Royal wedding.
It’s possible my head has been stuck in the sand over this and I’d be more than happy to apologise if I’m wrong, but I think the community is on the verge of letting our Royals and themselves down very badly.
Oh sure, there’s a few things going on and the youngsters in the office tell me they are planning to go down to the pub to watch William and Kate tie the knot.
Well, sorry, I don’t think it’s good enough. Where are all the mass street parties; the wall-to-wall knees ups and the crowds dancing in town centres?
We see all this when a football team wins a minor trophy and parade around in an open-top bus. But I’m a tad worried that this great wedding is going to be muted by comparison.
And if I turn out to be right, then that’s going to be a disaster.
Make no mistake – this is a moment of true history. A future King and Queen are getting spliced and we should be able to look back in 50 years time at the wonderful sepia-like pictures of joyful celebrations that we held. Instead, we may have a few images shot on mobile phones of punters toasting pint glasses in a pub while they flicked between the wedding vows and the Sky match of the day on their big screens.
Please prove me wrong. The heritage of our country deserves no less than an epic day of wild, uninhibited rejoicing.
