IT is surely wrong that Wycombe Council should consider using a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to force Sawyers Funeral Service to move from West Street in Marlow.
A CPO can be used for the construction of an essential new road or by-pass, for example, but not to benefit one private company at the expense of another.
To lose one's business premises to a CPO causes many problems, as from my own experience, no help is offered to relocate, and the main concern of the valuation officer is to pay as little as possible for the property.
I was told that this was to protect the interest of ratepayers.
After all, would Wycombe Council use a CPO for part of Waitrose for the benefit of Sawyers?
I do not think so.
