As temperatures drop to chilly depths, keep toasty and don't leave style out in the cold with faux fur hats, snuggly scarves and gorgeous gloves says Francine Miller.
The recent snow flurries that descended upon the country gave us just a hint of what is yet to come according to scientists who are predicting the coldest winter for over a decade.
But as all great fashionistas will know, temperatures may plummet but that's no excuse for leaving style out in the cold.
So cosy up and get winter warm this season with ultra-glam hats, gloves and scarves.
Starting from the top, wearing a hat can help retain the body heat lost through our heads, while at the same time making a stylish fashion statement that can transform any outfit.
The Babushka look is still strong throughout these chilly months, so why not go all out and choose a faux fur hat.
Try Next's white faux fur trapper hat, £12.99 or John Lewis' faux fur leopard number, priced at £15. For a trendy edge, check out the vast array of baker boy caps now available on the high street.
Look out for Marks and Spencer's version, priced at £12, River Island's cord cap for £12.99 and Miss Selfridge's sumptuous velvet number, for £12.
If beanie styles are more your bag, try a Missoni-inspired multicoloured zig-zag beanie from Warehouse, £6.
Moving on to scarves, this season offers a range of looks, from demure in skinny or crochet scarves, to statement-making chunky-knit numbers. Big in the scarf fashion ranks this winter are stripes, either in monocrome, or something more multi-hued. Check out Principles' blue and green striped scarf, £17.
Beatnik babes will love Marks and Spencer's monochrome striped scarf with pom-pom detail, £18.
A black pom-pom number, £9.99, is also available from Superdrug.
For super-snuggly scarves that you'll never want to unravel from your neck, visit Next.
If you prefer subtle shades, try the neutral knitted scarf, £14.99. Attention seekers will adore the multicolour chunky scarf, £14.99 or Peruvian pattern scarf, £12.99.
As temperatures drop to Arctic lows, extra-long scarves are a must-have. Warehouse has a sumptuous long beige scarf for £12.
For luxury indulgence, snuggle up in cashmere with John Lewis' block print scarves, £59, available in pastel or bright shades.
Finally, round off your look with a pair of gorgeous gloves to keep your hands supple, soft and warm.
If dull shades of black and grey make you miserable, brighten up your day with Gap's cheery multicoloured cable-knit gloves, £14.50, or Warehouse's cream crochet gloves for £10. Alternatively, take a leaf out of Audrey Hepburn's book and champion the ladylike look with leather driving gloves.
Look for soft leather for optimum comfort.
Marks and Spencer has a great range including lace-up pink leather gloves, £25 and velvet bow leather gloves, £22.
Animal prints look set to be a strong trend for 2006, but if you're not brave enough to drape yourself in safari chic, add a touch of leopard print with John Lewis' brown faux fur trim gloves, £10.
But for traditionalists, only mittens will do. Check out Accessorize's knitted version for £10.
